Relax. Dream. Wake Up Done.
At Dream Dental Services, we believe dental fear should never stand between you and a healthy smile. That’s why we offer a full spectrum of sedation options — from mild relaxation to complete unconsciousness — so every patient can receive the care they need in total comfort.
Who Is Sedation Dentistry For?
You don’t have to be terrified of the dentist to benefit from sedation. We see patients every day who simply want a more comfortable, stress-free experience. Sedation may be right for you if you have:
- Dental anxiety or phobia
- A strong gag reflex
- Difficulty getting numb with local anesthetic (Novocain)
- Sensitive teeth
- Restlessness or difficulty sitting still
- Discomfort with needles, dental sounds, smells, or tastes
- Multiple procedures to complete in a single visit
- Fear or embarrassment about the condition of your teeth

Your Sedation Options at Dream Dental Services
We offer four levels of sedation, tailored to your comfort level, medical history, and the complexity of your treatment.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) — Minimal Sedation
The gentlest option. You breathe nitrous oxide through a small nose mask during your procedure. It produces a calm, floaty feeling within minutes — and wears off just as quickly once the mask is removed. You can drive yourself home afterward. Safe for all ages, including children.
Oral Conscious Sedation — Moderate Sedation
No needles required. You take a prescription pill about an hour before your appointment. By the time you’re in the chair, you’ll feel deeply relaxed — awake but drowsy, with little awareness of what’s happening around you. Many patients have little to no memory of their visit. A responsible adult must drive you home.
IV Sedation — Deep Sedation
Sedating medication is delivered directly into the bloodstream through a vein, taking effect almost immediately. This allows our team to precisely adjust your sedation level throughout the procedure. You’ll be in a very deep state of relaxation — most patients remember nothing. Ideal for lengthy treatments, complex cases, or patients with significant anxiety. A driver is required.
General Anesthesia — Full Unconsciousness
For patients who need it most. Under general anesthesia, you are completely unconscious and feel nothing — no sounds, no sensations, no awareness. This is the highest level of sedation available and is administered in our on-site oral surgery suite by a qualified anesthesia provider.
General anesthesia is appropriate for:
- Patients with severe dental phobia who cannot tolerate any level of awareness
- Complex surgical procedures (extractions, implant placements, full-mouth restorations)
- Patients with special needs or medical conditions that make cooperation difficult
- Cases where significant amounts of work need to be completed in a single visit
You must have a responsible adult drive you home and remain with you for the remainder of the day. Our team will provide full pre-op and post-op instructions at your consultation.
Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?
Yes. Before recommending any sedation option, Dr. Ouellette reviews your complete medical history, current medications, and overall health. You will be closely monitored throughout your entire procedure. Our on-site oral surgery suite and experienced team are equipped to handle all levels of sedation with your safety as the top priority.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be unconscious during sedation?
It depends on the type you choose. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation keep you conscious but relaxed. IV sedation produces a deeper state where most patients have no memory of the procedure. General anesthesia renders you fully unconscious with no awareness whatsoever.
Do I need someone to drive me home?
Yes — for oral sedation, IV sedation, and general anesthesia, you must have a responsible adult drive you home and stay with you for several hours afterward.
Can I be sedated for a routine cleaning?
Absolutely. We offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation for patients who experience anxiety even during standard cleanings.
How do I know which option is right for me?
During your initial consultation, Dr. Ouellette will walk you through every option, explain what to expect, and help you choose the right level based on your health, your procedure, and your comfort goals.
